The IRFZ44 N-Channel Power MOSFET is a high-current switching transistor in a robust TO-220 package. It handles a massive continuous drain current of 49A, drain-source voltage up to 55V, and features an extremely low on-resistance of just 17.5 mΩ for outstanding efficiency. Ideal for high-current motor control, PWM drivers, switching power supplies, automotive electronics, audio amplifiers, and load control in Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and microcontroller-based projects.
The IRFZ44 is one of the most popular and widely used N-channel power MOSFETs in the electronics industry, prized for its combination of high current handling, low on-resistance, and affordable price. Built into the rugged TO-220 through-hole package, it is easy to mount on standard heatsinks and integrate into both prototype and production designs.
With a drain-source voltage rating of 55V and an exceptional continuous drain current capability of 49A, the IRFZ44 is well suited for driving very high-current loads such as DC motors, solenoids, heavy-duty relays, lamps, heaters, and high-power LEDs. Its remarkably low on-resistance of just 17.5 mΩ keeps conduction losses to a minimum, which translates to high efficiency, low heat generation, and longer device life under heavy loads.
The IRFZ44 is especially well known in the automotive aftermarket and car audio community, where it is commonly used in 12V power amplifiers, DC-DC step-up converters, and inverters thanks to its high current rating and robust performance at automotive voltage levels. It's also a favorite for PWM motor speed controllers, soft-start circuits, and electronic load designs.
Note on gate drive: The standard IRFZ44 is not a true logic-level MOSFET. Although it begins conducting around 4V, it typically requires a gate-source voltage of around 10V to fully enhance and reach its rated low on-resistance. To switch the IRFZ44 cleanly from a 5V Arduino or 3.3V microcontroller, use a MOSFET gate driver IC or a transistor-based driver stage. For direct logic-level switching, consider the IRLZ44N, which is specifically designed to switch fully from 5V logic.
