Brushless Motors

The EMAX CF2822 1200KV Brushless Motor is a high-performance outrunner motor engineered for RC airplanes and small-to-medium multicopters in the 300–400 class size range. Despite its very compact size and lightweight 39g design, this motor delivers exceptional power, efficiency, and durability — making it one of the most popular choices in its category for hobbyists and RC pilots.

EMAX is well known for its high manufacturing quality, reliability, and consistent performance, and the CF2822 series stands out as one of the best outrunner brushless motors available in the market for its weight class. The rotating outer case design provides higher torque per unit volume than inrunner motors, making it ideal for direct-drive propeller applications without requiring a gearbox.

With a KV rating of 1200 RPM/V, the CF2822 spins propellers at speeds well-matched to typical 3S LiPo battery setups commonly used in park flyers, trainers, foam EPP/EPO planes, and small aerobatic models. The motor reaches a peak efficiency of 82% when operated within its optimal current range of 7–16A, and can briefly handle peaks up to 16A for 60 seconds, providing excellent vertical performance and throttle response.

Important Setup Notes

  • No break-in required. Brushless motors do not need to be "run in" — they are ready to use straight out of the box.
  • Do not bench-test for more than 20 seconds. Without airflow from the propeller, the motor and ESC can overheat and cause damage.
  • Always verify ESC settings — especially timing — before first run.
  • Use a WATT METER when setting up a new motor + ESC + battery + prop combination to ensure you stay within the manufacturer's limits.
  • During testing, if maximum current is reached before full throttle, stop the test and reduce propeller diameter and/or pitch, then retest.

Warnings

  • Exceeding the motor specifications will damage the motor, ESC, or battery — and will void the warranty.
  • The manufacturer's warranty cannot be honored if the motor has been modified or operated outside its rated specifications.
  • Always provide adequate cooling airflow over the ESC heatsink during operation.

The above performance figures are provided as a guide only. Actual performance may be affected by incorrect ESC timing, battery quality, ambient temperature, unbalanced propellers, poor installation, electrical wiring quality, or inadequate cooling.
