The A4988 StepStick Stepper Motor Driver is a high-performance microstepping driver module designed for controlling bipolar stepper motors in precision motion applications. Based on the reliable A4988 driver IC, the module simplifies motor control using a straightforward STEP and DIRECTION interface, eliminating the need for complex phase sequence programming.
The driver supports multiple stepping resolutions including full-step, half-step, quarter-step, eighth-step, and sixteenth-step modes, allowing smoother movement, reduced vibration, and improved positioning accuracy. The integrated translator automatically handles microstepping sequences internally.
The A4988 supports motor supply voltages up to 35V and output currents up to 2A with proper cooling. An onboard potentiometer allows adjustable current limiting, enabling the use of higher motor voltages for improved high-speed performance.
Advanced protection features include thermal shutdown, undervoltage lockout, crossover-current protection, and short-circuit protection for reliable operation. Intelligent current chopping automatically selects slow or mixed decay modes to reduce audible motor noise and improve efficiency.
The A4988 StepStick is widely used in 3D printers, CNC machines, robotics, laser engravers, and Arduino-based motion control projects.
