The CC2540 BLE Shield v1.0 is an Arduino-compatible Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy shield powered by the TI CC2540 chip and the popular HM-11 module. It delivers reliable wireless communication up to 100 meters with very low power consumption, supporting both Central and Peripheral roles. Features include selectable hardware/software serial port, reset button, and reserved HM-11 pinouts. Ideal for remote control, data acquisition, smart home, and IoT projects with Arduino.
The CC2540 BLE Shield v1.0 is a compact and feature-rich Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (BLE) shield designed to plug directly onto an Arduino Uno or compatible board, instantly adding wireless connectivity to your projects. The shield is built around the Texas Instruments CC2540 SoC, integrated through the well-known HM-11 BLE module, providing a proven and stable BLE solution.
The shield supports both Central (Master) and Peripheral (Slave) roles, allowing it to either connect to other BLE devices or be discovered and controlled by smartphones and tablets. Communication uses the standard UUID FFE0 / FFE1 service, which is compatible with most BLE serial terminal apps on iOS and Android.
One of the standout features of this shield is the dual-style serial connection via two puzzle (jumper) connectors, allowing the user to choose between the hardware serial port and a software serial port depending on the application — extremely useful when the hardware UART is needed for programming or debugging. The shield also exposes the reserved pinouts of the HM-11, giving advanced users full access to the module's I/O for custom firmware or extended functions.
With a working current under 15 mA, sleep current below 3 mA, and a wireless range of up to 100 meters in open space, the shield is well-suited for battery-powered, long-range, and always-on IoT applications. A dedicated Reset button is included for convenient module restart during development.
