The MPU6050 (GY-521) 6-Axis Module combines a 3-Axis Gyroscope and a 3-Axis Accelerometer on a single chip, all aligned to the same axes to eliminate cross-axis errors common with separate sensors. It communicates over I2C and includes an on-board voltage regulator for 3.3V–5V operation. Ideal for motion tracking, orientation sensing, drones, robotics, and self-balancing projects with Arduino and other microcontrollers.
The MPU6050 GY-521 Module is a powerful 6-axis motion tracking sensor that combines a 3-Axis Gyroscope and a 3-Axis Accelerometer into a single, compact package. Because both sensors are integrated on the same silicon die and aligned to the same X, Y, and Z axes, the module completely eliminates the cross-axis alignment errors that typically occur when separate accelerometer and gyroscope ICs are used together.
At the heart of this breakout board is the InvenSense MPU-6050, which features a built-in Digital Motion Processor (DMP) capable of performing complex sensor fusion calculations directly on-chip, offloading this work from your microcontroller. The module supports programmable full-scale ranges for both sensors, allowing you to tune sensitivity to match your application — from precise low-motion sensing to high-speed dynamic measurements.
Communication is handled through the I2C bus using the standard Wire library on Arduino, requiring only two signal pins (SDA and SCL). An on-board low-dropout (LDO) voltage regulator allows the module to operate from either 3.3V or 5V power supplies, making it directly compatible with Arduino Uno, Mega, Nano, ESP32, ESP8266, Raspberry Pi, and most other microcontroller platforms.
