The Pololu Micro Serial Servo Controller (SSC) is a compact 8-channel controller for driving up to 8 RC servos from any computer or microcontroller. Multiple boards can be daisy-chained to control up to 128 servos on a single serial line. It offers 0.5µs resolution, independent speed and range control per channel, supports both Pololu and MiniSSC II protocols, includes an RS-232 level converter, and auto-detects baud rates from 1200 to 38400 bps.

Servo Motors

The Pololu Micro Serial Servo Controller (SSC) is one of the most compact and versatile servo controllers available, capable of driving up to 8 standard RC servos — from micro servos all the way up to giant scale servos — from any computer or microcontroller via a simple serial connection. Despite being smaller than a standard servo itself, the board provides professional-grade control features ideal for robotics, animatronics, RC vehicles, and automated mechanical systems.

For larger projects, multiple boards can be daisy-chained on a single serial line to control up to 128 servos simultaneously, making this controller scalable from simple two-axis pan/tilt rigs to complex multi-limbed robots and humanoid platforms.

The controller supports two separate communication protocols: the native Pololu protocol — compatible with other Pololu serial servo and motor controllers — which provides individual range and speed control for each servo, and the Scott Edwards MiniSSC II protocol, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of existing software and projects.

The board includes three status LEDs for easy diagnostics and an integrated RS-232 level converter for direct connection to a PC serial port — no extra interface hardware required. Two mounting holes and a clearly labeled rear-side pinout simplify installation, while the on-board voltage regulator allows the logic supply to run on anything from 5V up to 16V. The logic and servo power rails can be tied together for single-battery operation, or kept separate for systems requiring independent power management.
